They are extremely rugged in construction being built with the best materials available. The castings are marine quality aluminium (LM25) heat treated and sand blasted to give a grey matt appearance which achieves a very durable and hard wearing marine finish. They are also available in bronze, which is even more hard wearing and looks superb.The gears are all high-tensile steel EN8 and EN24, depending on the loading on them. Needle bearings and ballraces are employed throughout and the gearboxes are grease filled for life. Mounting is by stainless steel studs blind tapped into the base of the capstan (supplied in 150mm lengths).
